Lincoln PTO Arts Committee

The Arts Committee is dedicated to introducing Lincoln School students to all areas of the arts. We try to expose them to as many different experiences as possible, by having the arts presented in a wide variety of formats and venues. Our programs include:

Artist in Residence – Studio artists actively work on their art in the hallways of Lincoln School, allowing the children to watch the creative process.

Dramatist in Residence – A curriculum based drama program, in which the children work with a drama teacher over a period of several weeks to create and perform their own skits.

Music in the Morning – Lincoln School students and parents perform music in the hallway as the students are coming in to school in the morning.

Lincoln Live – A lunch music program in which professional musicians play music in the cafeteria while the children eat lunch.

Artist in the Classroom – An artist is brought into the classroom to display and discuss their artwork. This program has also taken place outside of the classroom in the form of a field trip, during which the children viewed several murals in the area, and then watched a mural artist at work.

Performances in the Auditorium – Large assemblies during which the children see 45-minute performances by a variety of professionals, including dancers, musicians, storytellers and actors/actresses. These programs often include audience participation.

Drumming Workshop – This is a new program we started last year. Students spent 3 days learning various types of Brazilian drumming techniques; the program culminates in an amazing performance for the school in the auditorium.

We have sponsored many other exciting programs and are always looking for new, creative ideas. We would love to have you join us. There is no required time commitment and any level of participation is appreciated.

If you have any questions or are interested in joining, please come to one of our meetings, leave us a note in the Arts Committee mail box in the office, or e-mail us using the icon links above.
